Dear Friends:

Ciao from Rome, Italy. We are wrapping up our first full day in Rome after our travel day yesterday (and the day before for Terri). Zeke was already in Europe after a two-week cycling trip with his buddies from Santiago de Compostela, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal. His 3-hour flight was significantly easier than Terri’s 12-hour flight from SFO.

Zeke has adjusted to the time zone while Terri will struggle with jet lag for the next five days.

It was raining when we both arrived, and we considered purchasing an umbrella, but we managed to avoid the rain as we grabbed a late lunch and took a walk to Terme di Diocleziano only to find out that the only part of it was open due to an exhibit change. We’ll try to go back tomorrow (Sunday) which may be a bit crazy since it’s free to the public (first Sunday of the month).

Zeke edited our first video which you can watch on our YouTube channel (link below). We are releasing daily videos and YouTube shorts so be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already.

Today we braved the crowds that are most likely due to Italy’s Labor Day (Festa del Lavoro) which was May 1st, but the celebrations tend to extend into the weekend.

Fortunately, the palazzo museums we went to, Doria Pamphilj and the Palazzo Venezia, weren’t very crowded despite their close proximity to the Roman Forum and Monumento a Vittorio Manuel II. At some points we were the only people in some of the rooms. We enjoyed both, especially the views of Monumento a Vittorio Manuel II from two of the museum’s loggias.

We had an easy lunch of pasta and green beans at Ristorante da Sabatino on the Piazza Saint Ignazio across from Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola which reminded Terri of several of the churches in Venice with its flat facade and the ornate and cavernous interior.

Terri couldn’t help but comment on the financial and physical sacrifices made by the congregations over the years to build and maintain these places of worship. We appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship, but the opulence of these churches stands as a stark reminder of the oppression and exploitation endured by those who toiled to erect and finance them.

Video from day one can be seen on YouTube!

We continue to experiment with technology, camera angles, and more as we create these videos. We hope that we can get better quickly with daily video production. Terri is working on letting go of how she looks on camera which can only be a good thing in all aspects of her life.

That’s it for now. Tomorrow will be busy with an early start at Terme di Diocleziano, Palazzo Massimo (Terri loves the mosaic tile pieces and the wall paintings), and maybe the Palazzo Barberini and Galleria Corsini (which will also be free tomorrow).

Ciao for now!

Terri and Zeke
